Financial assistance

We appreciate that sometimes we all need a helping hand when times are tough or we experience unexpected financial pressures.  This is why at Jewish Care Scotland we offer financial assistance in various ways.   Reserved for the immediate relief of short-term financial pressures, made possible by the generous support of various trusts within the community.

We accept applications from anyone within the community who is experiencing financial hardship, all you have to do is call to discuss your situation with a member of our team.  Your enquiry will be completely confidential.

Please be aware that as a charity we are duty bound to evidence that we are spending charity funds appropriately and as such access to the fund requires us to carry out an assessment of your financial situation.  All assessments are strictly confidential and you are under no obligation to provide any financial information in relation to your income and expenditure, however please be aware that the success of your application may be affected if you do not supply the information required to make an informed decision.

JCS is aware of the additional costs that arise at certain times of the year, including Jewish holidays and even school holidays.  We are pleased to have introduced specific grants that are available in the lead up to these times, to assist with the additional costs incurred.  Keep an eye on our social media and news section for more information.

Essential provisions

We now offer flexible support for people experiencing food poverty by providing vouchers, allowing people to purchase food and household essentials which meet their individual needs while more sustainable options for ongoing support are explored.

All enquiries and applications are treated with discretion and are completely confidential.

The Jewish Blind Society (Scotland)

The Jewish Blind Society (Scotland) was originally established in 1962 to provide care, entertainment and outings for members of the Jewish community with visual impairment.  Fortunately, due to the advances in medical science, there has been a welcome reduction in the number of clients suffering from severe sight related conditions and a subsequent reduction in demand for these services.

Whilst the care of those with visual impairment continues to remain at the core of its ethos, the Society is also very keen, through grant aided support, to improve the quality of life to those within the community who suffer from a physical disability and are non-ambulant, or who have a chronic or terminal illness, or who have age-related needs.

The Jewish Blind Society offers grant assistance to those who suffer from a physical disability and are non-ambulant, or who have a chronic or terminal illness, or who have age related special needs for the purchase of items to improve their day-to-day lives.  Examples of items the Society might fund include:

  • Lift and recline chairs
  • Walking aids
  • Smart speakers to aid with creating shopping lists, setting reminders, alarms
  • Talking watches
  • Audio book subscriptions.

If you think you or someone you know might benefit from support from The Jewish Blind Society (Scotland) please get in touch to have a confidential, informal discussion about how they could help.  You can call them on 0141 620 3339 or email info@jbsscotland.org.uk.
