Jewish Care Scotland extends support for families over the summer holiday

8 July 2024

Jewish Care Scotland have launched two initiatives to support families over the summer holidays. In recognition of increasing costs and the additional expenses associated with the summer holidays, JCS is offering a “Get ready for summer” grant for families with a low income who might otherwise struggle over the coming weeks. The one-off grant of £120 plus £60 for each additional child could help families with the extra costs of childcare, lunches, summer clothes, outings or even new school uniforms, as we know the additional costs add up!

Throughout the summer holidays Jewish Care Scotland are inviting children to come along to Welcome Wednesday where “kids eat free” with a paying adult to support families. Welcome Wednesday runs every week between 12 and 3pm. Kids coming along to Welcome Wednesday can choose from soup and snacks, catered by Mark’s Deli and Newlands Bakery.

This year, in partnership with Calderwood Lodge Primary School, JCS are offering parents the chance to pick up a branded gym kit for their kids returning to school in August. The Calderwood Lodge Primary School branded t-shirts are available in a range of sizes for parents to collect from JCS, upon arrangement.

Registered Manager, Vicki McPhee said of the summer initiative: “We are delighted to be able to offer a variety of supports to families this summer. Our Get set for summer Grant and Kids Eat Free offer at Welcome Wednesday are designed to help during a time which can bring along with it a lot of additional pressures. We encourage anyone interested in finding out more about what support JCS can offer to get in touch to have a confidential chat with our team and we look forward to welcoming families along on Wednesdays this summer.”
